New toys

November 9, 2008

I just got these puppies, finally!  I’ve been wanting them for a long time.  I’m really excited to have gotten these Pocket Wizards and this softbox lighting setup.  Without going into technical jargon, the Pocket Wizards trigger the light that is housed in the softbox.  Why should you care?  Well, if you’re a wedding or portrait client, I may use this lighting setup on you at some point, which will make even better portraits and photographs for you.  This will help me execute some of the photos I see in my mind that aren’t possible without studio lighting.  I’ve been wanting to explore a fashion look for bridal sessions and a lot of fashion photography employs studio lighting.  I’ll be using this setup at wedding receptions from now on, too, adding that extra touch for my clients, especially as we go into winter and receptions head inside.  I can’t wait to explore the possiblities with my new toys/tools!

Erika and Porter and their videographer, Quin, and I met up in Park City on an 80% chance of rain day.  We talked about calling it off, but we were all up for it, so we went!  It turned out to be a really great shoot on Main Street and at that big white barn.  I wonder if it has a name.  It was all misty there-so pretty.  What was so great about Erika and Porter is that we were all instantly comfortable together.  Porter was up for anything-definitely an easy guy to work with.  Erika and Porter just had fun with the shoot which makes for great, natural photographs every time.  Thanks, you two, for a fun time on the streets of Park City!

This was an old chicken coop or something.  I was standing in poop while taking this photo!  I’ll do just about anything for a good shot.

What a cute couple.  Camie and Ben are going to have really cute kids.  We had fun on this shoot, going into a boutique and shooting there and then, back into some hidden, off the beaten path places I love.  I just love going into to neat shops and telling a little story in the photographs.  It gives personality to the shoot.  I can only take photos of people in front of colorful or textured walls for so long!

I won, I won!

November 1, 2008

Local photographer celebrities, Pepper Nix and Mitch Burt threw an amazing Halloween costume party for photographers.  They had their place decked to the nines with every imaginable Halloween detail.  They even had gravestones, a bloody hot tub with a skeleton in it, body parts “grilling” on the grill, and fog to top it off outside.

One of the highlights of the evening was the photo booth by Foto Cabina.  You know those little booths you sit in and make silly faces in and then a strip of 4 photos comes out?  Well, this is that, but waaaaay better.  It’s a luxurious, modern booth that you can use at events and weddings.  www.fotocabina.com  If you want to have Foto Cabina at your wedding, let me know and I’ll connect you with the right people.  It will make your wedding sooooo fun.

That’s me in the top left corner with the unibrow and red lips in true Frida Kahlo fashion.  Mitch Burt is the devil, Dustin Izatt is the little dwarf whose name I can’t think of right now, and Pam and Ritchie Belangdal are pirates, I think?

The other highlight was that I won the costume contest.  There was a male and female winner.  Bob Ross won for the male prize.  I was Frida Kahlo, who was a Mexican revolutionary painter.  If you don’t know who she is, you should Google her or see the latest movie about her called, “Frida” with Salma Hayek as Frida.  Frida rocks.  What did I win?  A Kura Door massage!  I really need one from sitting at this computer, working all the time!

Here’s Frida…                                          and me as Frida
