Because it’s snowy out…

January 28, 2009

I shot these a few days after Christmas and this recent snow inspired me to post them. The apples on those trees are finally all brown and droopy now, like the soft insides could just plop right out of the skin any time.

My dog-children, Sugar and Mia kept me company while I shot these in my backyard.

These two are sexy, smart, and silly, and of course-hot.  Mike and Brittany live in St. Louis, Missouri and go on a ski trip every year and this year, it was Park City.  So, while on their vacation, I did their engagement photos.  Mike and Brittany met in veterinary school and they seem like a perfect match to me.  Brittany froze her toes off, but she was a total trooper.

You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing.  You don’t have to cut the cake, toss the garter, throw the bouquet, or wear a white dress.

Martin and Kara (a.k.a. Bucky and Keekee) bucked tradition and did it their own way, the way that felt natural and right to them and it was one of the most fun weddings I’ve been to.

Kara wore a beautiful black dress, made her bouquet out of colored duct tape, made personalized wedding favors, made her centerpieces flowers from origami paper, recycled glass bottles, and stones.  It was beautiful.  They didn’t cut the cake or do the garter toss, but they did have square dancing!  It was so much fun and it got everyone dancing.  They hired square dance callers to keep things going.

Don’t get me wrong, wedding traditions are wonderful, but if they don’t feel right for you, do something else.

 Decorations and flowers:  Bride

Erika and Porter are really great to work with-they’re playful, energetic, smiley, and relaxed.  Their wedding day was just plain fun.  They were married at the Salt Lake Temple on November 21st and had their reception at Ivy Lane Reception Center in Ogden.  Erika was such a trooper-it was cold, but the photos look great because she stuck it out-and with a smile on her face the whole time!

Erika and Porter are really loved by A LOT of people.  Erika didn’t really want a line at her reception, but she got a huge and time consuming one.  It wrapped all the way around and through all of the many rooms of Ivy Lane.  They did eventually get to cut their cupcake cake (which looked awesome and tasted delicious) and got a few dances in toward the end.

Congratulations Erika and Porter!  Thanks for being so fun to work with.
