Melanie and Ryan | Salt Lake Hardware Building Wedding

When I met with Melanie and Ryan to talk about their wedding plans, they told me they just wanted a big party…and they delivered. They were married in a fun and touching ceremony at the Salt Lake Hardware Building. Melanie’s daughter was part of the ceremony and Ryan gave her a ring, as a symbol of how important she is to him. People were crying–happy tears, of course.

Like I said, they wanted a party, so that’s exactly what the reception was. There were Poker and Craps tables with dealers and everyone danced like crazy. The night wasn’t complete without another dance routine and a rap song toast by a bridesmaid.

The colors reflected the party atmosphere, too. Hot pink and black. The cake was adorned with pink gerber daisies and green kermit mums, along with a 4 x 4 Jeep crawling up the side. This wedding had personality.

I had a great time photographing this wedding because 1. it was a party, 2. this was a great couple with really fun friends, and 3. I was able to approach the photography in a contemporary way. I really had fun photographing the couple with their bridesmaids and groomsmen under the overpass.

Congratulations to Melanie and Ryan who recently brought a beautiful baby girl into the world.

Andrea | Thanksgiving Point Bridal Portraits

Andrea is a natural. Pretty sure she’s modeled before. She was gorgeous in her beautifully fitted wedding gown from Bridal Expressions. The skirt and pleating were lovely, and I especially loved the ruffled collar.

Andrea and her cute mom, Margo (how could you not be, with a name like Margo), met me at Thanksgiving Point for a fun time of riding around in a golf cart on the grounds of Thanksgiving  Point for Andrea’s bridal session. I’m so glad we found the “secret” garden at the end of our session time. I just wish we’d found it earlier since we were burning daylight.

Isn’t Andrea lovely?

Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

Novalicious | Wedding Day Bridal Portraits

This is Nova on her wedding day at her parents beautiful home in Holladay, Utah.  Nova is hilarious and warm, and I felt like her friend right away.  She looked fabulous (or Novalicious, if you prefer) in her figure skimming lace wedding gown. I especially liked the sheer sleeves that stopped right above the elbow.

Jess and Jason | Engagement Photo Session in Salt Lake City

Jess and Jason are a laid back, outgoing couple. I really enjoyed working with them. For their engagement session, we stopped at my favorite hidden nature park off a busy street and then, checked out State Street in Murray for a different look.

Perhaps I’m pointing out the obvious. In the last photo, I think it’s pretty cool how there’s a heart on the  near wall and Jess and Jason’s shadows make a heart shape on the far wall. I’m not usually a heart person, but I like this.

Thinking of Spring | Bridal Portraits

I’ve been looking forward to the warmer days of spring and Megan’s bridal portraits came to mind. We stopped at a beautiful orchard in Provo, where the flower buds were about to burst. We also stopped by my photographer friend, Justin Hackworth’s studio. He was very gracious to let us use his beautifully simple, well lit space.  Thanks, Justin!

This was a standout bridal session for me because this look was something different than the norm. I also love Megan’s portraits in the orchard. I think she looks like she’s straight from a bridal magazine!

I photographed Megan’s sister, Amanda’s wedding a few years back and it was really fun to have her along for Megan’s bridal shoot. To top off a great day, we grabbed In-N-Out Burger on the way home. Yum.
