I love this couple and I love Megan’s family (haven’t met JJ’s yet).  I photographed Megan’s sister, Amanda’s wedding a couple of years ago, and recently did her post-wedding bridal portraits, HERE.

What I loved about Megan and JJ’s  engagement session, is that they were always laughing.  They are so easy to photograph and it just felt like we were hanging out and happened to be taking engagement photos.

Just wait until you see Megan’s bridal portraits…yowzer!  I’ll share those after the wedding…you know, since we don’t want JJ to see her in her dress before the wedding.

For Matt and Andrea’s engagement session, we took a little tour of Salt Lake City.  It was a spontaneous adventure.  We started near my house in Holladay, at a laundromat where I take my comforter since it’s too big for my washing machine.  One day, when I was there, attending to said comforter, the light was streaming through the windows and I thought it would be a great new place for an engagement session.

After hitting the laundromat, where Andrea’s mom helped a stranger fold his underwear (that’s another story),  headed toward downtown Salt Lake City, stopping along State Street, whenever we saw something we liked.  Thanks to Andrea’s mom, Margo, for driving…and cinnamon hot chocolate to warm us up.

We ended the evening in a grassy field overlooking Salt Lake City. How nice.

Anyway, Chris and Heather are passionate about their hobbies.  Chris races bikes and Heather rides and shows horses.  They wanted to include these passions in their engagement photographs.  We went to the ranch in Saratoga Springs where Heather keeps her horses, Rocket and Midas.  Rocket got in on the photo action and so did Chris’ bike.  Does your bike have a name, Chris?  I wouldn’t be surprised.

Machel had seen some engagements I’d done overlooking the city, right on this-here blog! So, we did photos there, but first, we got together and did some “studio” style photos in their casual outfits and then, went to the field, overlooking Salt Lake City. I also had another awesome location up my sleeve, but we had to wait until dark to use it to its full advantage. Mikey brought along champagne and we decided to capture the opening of the bottle on film at the final location. Mikey looked so cool opening that bottle and then, poofshhhmmmmshhhh! it kind of blew up in Mikey’s face. Poor Mikey had it dripping from his face and on his shirt, but it made for a funny moment. After that, Mikey and Machel enjoyed their champagne and I got some of my favorite photos of them. Check it out below!

Anywho, Avery and Matt and I set out to a gorgeous grassy field while the skies were still blue with those monster cumulus clouds that form before a thunder storm. We captured some amazing skies and then, came the thunder, and lighting, and rain…lots of it.

So, we finished up our grassy field photos under a cute, see-through umbrella and decided to go for it and shoot in the rain at Liberty Park. We sneaked onto the abandoned carousel and ran through the rain from covered spot to covered spot. We had a blast.
